Child benefit

My son recently moved in with me. I have put in a claim for child benefit. My ex was claiming child tax credits as well. Does anyone know if by me claiming child benefit, does HMRC link that the other parent is no longer entitled to tax credits or do they need to notify them ?

Does you child live with you 100% of the time ? If not you need to agree how to share the child benefit.

Can you and the father agree who will get (a) Tax Credits and (b) Child benefit?

Thinking some more if you're not already on a Tax Credit claim I think the change will be a trigger to end Tax Credits and force you to migrate to Universal Credit.

They need to notify HMRC themselves if there are any changes.

Ok, thought so. Problem is I don't think they will and they might end up owing money because as far as I know they are still getting paid!.

They live here 100% and I pay for everything.
