Deduction CMS travel

Can my ex take money from my cm for travel? If so, how much? If I then went through cms, does anyone know how they'd calculate this? It's 500 miles round trip 6 times a year. Or 250 miles 12 times... sometimes also in a hotel to break it up. Thank you.

(Have read info online but all different; someone said to go through cms as it would probably only equate to £1 a week off!)

Yes he can. And it’s morally wrong imo.

How they work it out exactly I don’t know. It depends on the type of car he drives and how many miles from what I remember.

Yes he can.

But it's not a whole lot is it? If it was a pound a week I'd not be that bothered. He's saying he wants half of what he has to pay!

CMS will calculate it by mileage I imagine.

Do you rely on this money?

Absolutely

Unfortunately op there’s very little you can do about all these loopholes used to reduce CM. Better to quietly accept it and find another way to plug that gap.

Really? So not recommended to go via CMS?

If you can, find out how much CMS would deduct and then compare it to what your ex wants to withhold.(Also make sure he is paying the correct amount to start with) Then you can make a more informed decision. Although, TBH, the kind of man who pulls this sort of stunt won't be too reliable long-term, and I would probably stick with CMS and have them collect the payments for you.

What I’m saying is, by all means go via CMS but know that it’s a very blunt tool. And if a parent wants to avoid or minimise paying child maintenance there are multiple legal ways of doing so.

In our case, it’s been easier to find the extra income, than go chasing after the £7 per day he’s deducting. I know not everyone is as lucky but it really will save you so much stress if you don’t rely on it.
