UC Application Help!

SquirrelySponges · 06/07/2023 00:18

I have submitted a UC application on 11th June after my circumstances at home have changed. My UC online journal has stated that they will call me to confirm details. It then says this phone call will be 2-3 days after I applied but I'm still waiting. On my application it stated that they would inform me on 13th July how much I would get and it would be paid on 17th July.

I'm sure they are overrun with applications and that's the reason they haven't yet called but I'm a little worried that my application has got lost somewhere or that they won't call me in time or I won't get documents to them in time or something so my payment may be delayed by another month.

Should I call them to chase it up or just sit tight and see what happens? Thanks in advance!

Are you checking your journal on a regular basis? I'd say at this stage no longer than 48hrs between logging in.

On a new claim where claimant ID, housing costs etc need to be verified then normally I'd expect a call and or interview at the Job Centre to deal with this stuff. OTOH if they're satisfied with what they've had on line and either you've no housing costs or you're in Social Housing where they've access to a portal with rent etc then it can just run through.

If you claimed on 11 June then your first Assessment Period should end on 10 July with first payment a week later.

My advice is to check your journal asap and perhaps call if you're still concerned.

Let us know how you get on.

Phone them

I starting receiving UC last September and I still have a message on there saying someone will call me. It's in my 'to-do' list. No one ever has and I've been getting my payments like clockwork with no issues. I was told it was just one of their 'glitches'.
Leave a message on your journal if you are concerned as trying to get hold of them by phone is a nightmare.

I would call them. I helped someone to make a claim on monday and they had a call yesterday. You claim won't progress properly if they need further information.

I found it quite confusing. Defo keep checking your journal.

Ours is a joint claim and dh is utterly useless which really slowed everything down.

Thanks everyone, I check my journal daily but it hasn't changed at all. It says "we will call you" in my to do list. I'm not claiming any housing benefit so don't need to prove that and I work too so don't need to update the looking for work bit. But I know they may want to check ID and payslips and stuff. I will give them a call and see what they say x

Exactly what it says in mine and has done since September!
Call them if you're worried but as I said mine is just a technical glitch and I still receive my payments on time.

Plus I didn't have to send any wage slips.

Plus I didn't have to send any wage slips.

If you're an employee or worker on PAYE then, when your employer runs payroll, the data for those on UC is automatically passed to UC who calculate the benefit due after any work allowance based on net earnings after Tax/NI and any deductions for pension.

RaininSummer · 06/07/2023 12:20

You could ring their helpline and ask as your claim should be progressing through bio interview to check identity and then a first commitments meeting. No payments will be made unless those have taken place

ladybirdwings · 08/07/2023 09:43

Hey @SquirrelySponges I was wondering if you called them?

I also made my claim on the same date and the wait to find out if we will get anything is stressful. I made the change from tax credits so I do expect we are entitled, however the fact they haven't called has me worried that it's not being processed.

I've never actually worried this much about money before, even though DH just got paid, I'm literally hanging onto that to make sure the bills can be paid at the end of the month!

SquirrelySponges · 11/07/2023 21:39

@jammiedodgerfriday I appear to be in the same bracket as you! Statement says they will pay me on 17th July and the amount so seems like its all gone through without me needing to talk to anybody. Though the to do list still states they will call me! Well if they do I will happily talk to them but I'm less worried now! Thanks for your help x

@ladybirdwings I tried and didn't get through so wrote a message in my journal. That wasn't replied to at all though! Was going to call them again today but when I logged on it said my statement was ready so I've checked it and it is on there saying they will pay me an amount on 17th July. So it would appear they didn't need to speak to me and have just gone ahead and set it up. Maybe it will be the same for you. I hope you get it sorted soon, I know how stressful it is just waiting x
