Virgin paying off sky contract

Long story short Virgin media was installed in our area in January so we had a salesman approach us and offered us a great deal, I explained we were in contract with sky until 2024 so we weren't looking to change. They said they would pay the remainder of the contract off later in the year when virgin was installed at our house. So our virgin TV & broadband was installed yesterday (had no communication they just turned up!). Due to the lack of communication I am concerned they're yet to inform Sky as our Sky tv & broadband is still fully working.

I've tried contacting virgin today (trying to get in touch with the pope would be easier!) so I had to settle with a WhatsApp exchange with them, finally they have now told me to get in touch with the sales department which I will do tomorrow.

Has anyone had this situation with virgin cancelling sky on your behalf? This is what was promised by the salesman that they would get in touch with sky/cancel the contract and pay the remaining bill.

I’m hugely sceptical of this, primarily because the Sky contract is a credit contract, and only the contract owner can cancel it. I couldn’t cancel it for my husband, surely there’s no way a random company could call them up and cancel?

Sales people say anything for a sale.

Have you got anything in writing saying what they offered?

Virgin runs its own network whilst Sky uses Openreach, which means that to switch your broadband from one to the other does require you to request it rather than just asking the new provider to take up the provision (unlike for example swapping from sky to BT, who both use openreach).

So you do need to talk to Sky! Sky will credit your account with £100 if you get charged termination fees.
