Hi
Why would a solicitor ask for my ID verification and bank account details by letter and then contact me and ask me to give (confirm?) the bank details again by phone? This is some sort of double check?

If he wants to pay money into your bank account, the more times he checks the better!

When I'm entering clients' bank details on tax returns for tax refunds, I check, double check and treble check, and I also ask the client to check and initial the details on that page of the tax return.

If he's not paying you money, it's possible he's entered the first lot of details onto ID proof software or even their bank account as a "set up payee", just to check the details marry up to help with their legal requirement to have proof of your ID. If the first time they checked it, it didn't come back as valid with your name, they may just be asking again to check whether the first details you sent were right. People do make mistakes!
