Should we get Amex Platinum Card?

Hi all,

We’ve been unable to reach agreement on whether it’s worth us getting the Amex Platinum card so hoping someone here can help. For context:

  • we spend around £36k a year on our existing (free) BA Amex
  • we typically go on 3-4 nice holidays a year
  • we have a 20 month old and are trying for our second at the moment
  • we typically prefer staying in AirBnBs with a young child, so the hotel benefits aren’t going to be regularly used

Based on the above, do you think it’s worth the yearly fee? Our other choice would be the premium BA Amex for the 1.5 Avios points but can’t decide if the additional Platinum benefits are worth it

TIA!

Yes.

Definitely not. The benefits are nowhere near worth the fee.

I'm not sure what the platinum fee and additional benefits are? But we spend the same and have opted for the BA premium one to get the companion voucher for above economy.

We chose Amex Platinum cashback cards. 5% initially during promotion period, then 1%. & travel insurance
No annual fees

Have used for several years and no complaints

I'd rather have the cash rewards than calculating the benefits and costs

We've swapped from the BA one to the platinum cash back one. All seems to make sense for us just now.

I suppose it depends on what you're wanting out of it, if you're just looking for some economy flights or premium economy it might not be worth it, but we are saving for business class flights which outstrips the value we'd get in cash back by some margin (when the companion voucher is factored in), if you're looking for the cheaper flights cash back might be better value.
