Please can someone help me with the readings?!

I'm so thick honestly I haven't got a clue what I am doing. We moved into our first house on 26th May. Came from living with parents so not had to do anything like this before.

The person who used to live here has asked if I can take meter readings as the company need them for the final bill to close down the account. I said I didn't know how to and then he said ok it's fine. Anyway I had a letter from his old supplier saying "welcome to eon we would like to continue supplying energy to this property" and then they go on to say that based on past usage of 2001.0kWh of electricity and 13288.0kWh of gas, we would be paying 247.

Anyway this prompted me to try and do the readings again for last month. I think I managed to do it as the meter tells me how much has been used to far this month and then when you press the button again it says "last month" and then gives you the number. However the numbers are sooooo different from what's on the letter that I'm thinking i must still be doing it wrong.

It says gas 00014.84 and electric 0004.73

this doesn't seem right?? Can anyone help? Do I need to convert these numbers or something

What kind of meter is it? For most you don't need to press any buttons, the display shows the current reading.

You really should have done readings on the day you moved in otherwise you could find yourself paying for the previous occupiers gas/electricity.

Can you show a picture of the meter? I've never seen one where you have to press any buttons, it's just displayed.

There should be two meters, one for gas and one for electricity

That might not be the meter you're looking at, maybe some sort of smart meter display device?

The screens are blank which is why at first I didn't know how to read it and what to do. But you just have to press to make the screen light up. And then it shows current reading and "last month"

I will take pictures and post them just bare with me, on my way home
