Council tax reduction

Hello

Hoping someone can help. NC for this. Quite a stupid question really but I’m currently not earning anything so am getting maximum UC for my circumstances (single parent in rented accommodation). On EntitledTo advice I’ve applied for Council Tax Reduction which I have been granted, and today received a bill for a one-off amount of 70-odd quid for the whole year. Frankly, I’m astonished! My question is, does this amount cover the year even when my circumstances (hopefully!) change in the next few months and do I have to report this to the council? Will they know automatically once I’m earning again? Or is it just that once it’s been approved for the year that’s the amount?

I’ve never been in this situation so really don’t know. Not trying to shirk my C/Tax responsibility either, although if my current shite circumstances could mean I have one less bill to pay for the year I’d not look that gift horse in the mouth!

Thanks for reading, and in advance for any guidance x

Not 100% but I'd imagine they'd know if your circumstances changed and even if they didn't I wouldn't not tell them (not saying you would). I'd say you'd be liable for CT when your circumstances change otherwise it's fraud. They're hot on CT too so I'd imagine it only covers you for the circumstances you're in now.

My council gets notified when my earnings change my UC and they send me a new calculation of what I owe. It’s done automatically but it’s worth calling your council and finding out what you need to do.

I did think as much but really had no idea, and was thrown by receiving a bill for the whole amount.

Thank you @PinkButtercups and @Sweetladyjane really appreciate you taking the time to respond x
