Someone won £5k on a £1 bond from 1961. I bet they'll be surprised! I wonder if it was bought as a new baby gift back then.

Heretotry · 03/07/2023 09:28

If I was to open an account I'm guessing the 1st draw I would be eligible for would be September is that right? Will £8000/£8500 be ok to start with?

Is it midnight tonight they tell you on the app?

Yes @properdoughnut

Yes. So you might as well keep in savings until end of this month to get interest on it. No point putting it in right now.

Heretotry · 03/07/2023 09:42

Thanks

Its only about £7 in interest so not really going to miss it. I'll sign up and get it started in a week or so

I love those big wins from small investments, I hope it's someone who really needs this cash

Hopefully also someone who knows the bond exists and has up to date details recorded with NS&I - sadly many of the small, older bonds people don't realise they have them or have never updated the details on them

I had a look at the big winners list and saw a few where they were just a few pound short of full holdings (like £2 or £8 off 50k) and wondered if they have done it deliberately to see a big win easier 😂

I did get excited that there was a holding very close to mine in the right area - but it definitely wasn't mine

SB1971 · 03/07/2023 10:41

I really hope I have a win this month after 2 with nothing with a £46k holding.
Fingers crossed for us all!

Yes that is frustrating after seeing the interest rates you could be getting o that sort of sum. We are moving soon and I will be using most of it on moving costs but tempted to just get the interest nowadays. And just a bit in PBs. As boring as that is 😂

Abouttimemum · 03/07/2023 11:05

No big prizes here - most of the ones from my area had big investments quite recently - there was none from a £25-£100 reinvestment for example which is pretty much what all mine are! Mostly the bond value was between £10-30k invested over the past few years. I know it’s all just the same odds per bond but I found this month quite frustrating 😂 not sure how lucky you have to be to invest £30k two months ago and instantly win £25k!

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 03/07/2023 11:20

Anyone still got their originals?

Ive got the paper bonds that were bought when I was 1 and 2 but have long since gone as they cash in the earliest bonds

I still have £10 and DH has £5.
I have a separate holding for savings with a different holder number somehow so the £15 bonds are still held by us.
DH's bonds have never won but my £10 won £50 a few years ago which was nice.

I checked on the NS & I website earlier - you can request that newer bonds are cashed in rather than older ones if you want to.

I didn't in the end, as I think it takes a couple of days longer.

Happiestathome · 03/07/2023 13:46

@InMySpareTime just in case you weren’t aware, please be careful not to exceed the max holding overall, or prizes that exceed it are taken back. I completed a check with them to make sure I had no other bonds when I did have max. Imagine winning the million and then not 😭

@Happiestathome there's no chance of my hitting full holdings (currently on about £5k) unless I win that much. I think my £10 is neither here nor there.

Yes, I have five £1 bonds that were bought for me, one a month for five months, when I was a baby.

Happiestathome · 03/07/2023 13:52

@InMySpareTime 🤞🤞🤞
I doubt I’ll ever get there again. It was my mortgage repayment money at the time

CatMattress · 03/07/2023 14:37

Well, I may still have won 1k or less, but I'm not a big winner. Nobody in my county won off that list with anything under 30k in holdings.

CatsOnTheChair · 03/07/2023 15:25

Are all your apps working?
Mine just says "sorry, something went wrong"

ajandjjmum · 03/07/2023 15:32

So apparently one of the £1 million winners is from Staffordshire and bought their holding in March?!!! Shock

Would Agent William come back if I was out the first time???

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/07/2023 15:32

My app working ok.

My county is always 50k holders winning

Roll on midnight 😄🤞🏻.
