Lock on credit file

I've applied for a mortgage and the lender has come back and said I have locked my credit file and I need to unlock it so they can do the credit check. I have no idea what they mean and nor does my solicitor or my broker. I've been told by Experian that there is no lock on my file and I've made data subject requests to Equifax and Transunion which I'm waiting for responses on. Has anyone had this and managed to resolve it? If so how? I'm at risk of losing the purchase so getting quite desperate. Any advice appreciated.

I recently applied for an additional current account and it didn’t go through as I had a lock on my credit file. It was with Experian and there was a lock on it.

Is this joint? could be the other person does?

I don’t like wasting money but only suggestion is to Join Experian £14.99 and in there you can physically turn it on and off so might be worth a shot? Might not work tho…

Thanks for the reply which is much appreciated. Can you have a joint credit file? I wouldn't think it was that as I'm single. Yes I did wonder about signing up with Experian to effectively turn it on and then off again - but Experian have advised me that there is no lock on my file. Might try it anyway if that is how you solved it in your case?

Ok I've signed up and turned the lock on and then off again. 🤞🏻

Yep it worked for me. Fingers crossed. Let the mortgage provider know it has been removed. ~ if it indeed is Experian.
So annoying they won’t tell you who.

No you can’t have a joint credit file. You can be associated with someone though if share finances.

It must have worked because the mortgage was approved this morning! Can't thank you enough!
