Half of DPs wages are taxed

summerfinn · 21/04/2023 09:32

My DS got paid his first month of his new salary yesterday. Which was eleven thousand euro he go taxed half of that which only left us with only 5500 as his monthly pay. The tax is system is disgusting in the country I live in. Even with that wage it's difficult to get by these days with the cost of everything.

Op, on searching your username o see this is not actually about Tax, is it?

It's about the fact you want to have as much money as possible to buy a house sooner and away from your dad.
You are living with him, I imagine for a decent rate rent whilst you save. You're husband is working to 11pm to get a promotion and then I imagine seeing his payslip is a blow because it's hindered your chances to move sooner.

Just move to another rental. You don't owe your dad anything and it takes away the urgent of saving for somewhere to buy.

Yes you hit the nail on the head.

I can’t tell if you’re taking the piss OP.

You live with your dad so I assume your rent is minimal. You don’t work so don’t need to spend money on childcare costs.

What are you spending your money on?

We are hardly going to just drop down to a lower income are we😂. It may not have been exactly half of wages taxes but in and around. I'm not the high earner it's my DP so slagging off my intelligence is a low blow.

You said your rent is around 900

Its a low blow to come on a site where people are struggling to even buy food to complain that you are struggling to survive on €4k+ after rent

You dont even work, your youngest child is nearly school age, maybe its time to start looking at getting back into work if you are really struggling to budget on 5.5k a month

Wishimaywishimight · 21/04/2023 11:04

His salary is €132k? I think you'll be fine 🙄

BarbaraofSeville · 21/04/2023 11:05

So why post what you did?

Your high family income gives you options. Rent somewhere else, or buy whatever property you can afford now, even if it's not your ideal in terms of size/location etc.

Yes we drive a Mercedes but it's not brand new. It's a couple of years old. Maybe I am being stupid

Stupid or not, this is a ridiculous comment on this board of Mumsnet.

You're driving a couple year old mercedes, other people are starving to a point of ill health.

There isn't a cost of living crisis, it's a wealth distribution crisis.
Tory government say an adult can exists on £343 a month. (Which I think is going up soon)
Meanwhile people getting £5k a month complain they haven't been abroad for 2 years.

they should take more from the £5k a month and gave it to the £343 a month - I know it's a silly thing to type and no one would agree before someone jumps on me.

Lots of jealous people in this thread.

People aren't starving because OP drives a Mercedes, so that's a silly correlation to make.

I get it OP, it's frustrating that you pay that much tax. But if you are struggling on that wage, something's gone wrong. Lots of people with kids survive on less.

SmallAngryPenguinWoman · 21/04/2023 11:06

Our childcare is the highest in Europe

But you don't work, so your childcare is ZERO!

I am in Ireland by the way, so know exactly how the tax system works. If he's paid 50% of his wages in tax then he hasn't sorted his tax credits etc...

whumpthereitis · 21/04/2023 11:06

Getting married would help you here. So would getting an accountant.

Here’s what you should have done. Get married, buy a house, have children. Oh and you work full time and pay your own way.

We met in 2018 and our house plans fell through. We had two ds. Not everything happens like a fairytale. I can't work. I have a disability.

How do you think 5500 a month is not a high income in Ireland OP. You are not a middle earner. You are a high earner.

As I say I currently earn 1800 a month in Ireland, working full time 40 hours a week. I get by.

chessburger · 21/04/2023 11:10

My husband has a very high salary and pays about €5k a month tax. Obviously that makes us well off compared to many many people. And the country is not on its arse for people like you who can afford not to have to work, afford private healthcare, afford rent (though i know the housing crisis is a disaster). I look around and see where our tax is going, new playgrounds all over the place, parks getting bins and benches and walkways, cycle lanes being built, roads being resurfaced, schools opening Autism classes, A huge amount of money going into the HAP scheme, refugees being welcomed and supported as well as possible. I'm happy to contribute to all of those things,

overthinkersanonnymus · 21/04/2023 11:10

Get the fuck out 😂😂😂

Felixss · 21/04/2023 11:11

Me and dh are thinking of moving to the US for a few years. Much higher wages and lower taxes. Its tempting as the returns are getting smaller each year.

Peapodburgundybouquet · 21/04/2023 11:11

Wishimaywishimight · 21/04/2023 11:04

But his take home is half of that, which is galling for one, but also not a huge amount of money to support a whole family and save up for a house. Life is expensive there.

Wishimaywishimight · 21/04/2023 11:12

Honestly OP, I think you are just winding us up now - your Merc is not "brand new"? That must be hard to deal with alright!

What sort of rent are you paying?

IClaudine · 21/04/2023 11:12

Can you set out your outgoings? Maybe we can help you find where you can trim things?

Titusgroan · 21/04/2023 11:12

Just went onto Govn website for UK
Your dh would be taking home £7134 pm here
Based on a salary of £132,000

Thats includes NI payments
And in Ireland you don’t even have national health insurance.
That take home is a disgrace.
Is it the worst in Europe?

Mooshamoo · 21/04/2023 11:13

I'm looking at my ten year old car

Id love a two year old mercedes.

Op is sitting at home eating her avocados and driving in her mercedes (but it's not brand new!).

My english is failing me today! Either way, it's a silly comparison to make.

But I still think that there are some jealous people on this thread. There always are. It's MN.

OP has posted a money-related post in the Money Matters topic, and people seem to be annoyed that she has more money than them. So only poor people are allowed to post in here then?

GalileoHumpkins · 21/04/2023 11:14

Whereabouts in Ireland are you OP? I have some ironing you could do if you want to earn a few extra bob.

MamaDollyorJesus · 21/04/2023 11:14

@HurryShadow

It's all good and well being told a gross salary, but the most important number is what is going in to your pocket.

This is so true - when negotiating my salary increase I always base it on the take home pay amount, but I work in payroll so can do the manual calculations to back calculate to get the gross amount I'm looking for. It always amazes me the amount of working people who have no idea what the things on their payslip actually mean.

A perfect example of jealousy. You sound bitter. Why is that?

Namechanger355 · 21/04/2023 11:15

obv 5k net is a good wage

but eg that wouldn’t get too far at all in London for example with 2 kids - our childcare is 2k a month per child

so in that case there wouldn’t be money for rent on top

so it’s all relative isn’t it..
