Problem with work

Blueberrymuffin03 · 08/04/2023 09:39

I've been working for a certain company and pay day has been and gone it's now bank holiday weekend.
I contacted the company and they said nothing to do with them contact the line manager which I have and he's completely ignored me.
I didn't sign a contract because apparently they don't do them and payroll and pin I had to wait for because I had to wait for a 'company' DBS
Any advice sorry if my post is not very clear.

what country are you in? no contract is a big red flag

xyzandabc · 08/04/2023 11:01

I'm reading between the lines and assuming you were expecting to be paid but haven't been paid?

Or is the pay wrong? Or some other type of problem?

When did you start? When is cut off date for payroll? Maybe you started after the cut off so next month you'll be paid for a whole month and a part month? Though I would have expected payroll to have told you that when you contacted them.

If you've to wait for a DBS, surely you shouldn't have started working yet?

Also what type of work is it that doesn't have a contract?

The company say pay is nothing to do with them. Does the line manager not work for the company? Who is actually paying you? The company, an agency, the line manager, someone else?

Yesthatismychildsigh · 08/04/2023 11:06

Do you mean you’ve not been paid? You’re not making much sense. If that’s the case, when did you start and what’s the cut off for the payroll run?

Blueberrymuffin03 · 08/04/2023 12:04

I have not been paid
Line manager said I'd be paid on such a date when I started
No one at work has a contract
The company obviously pays but as I say they said its nothing to do with them because I don't have a payroll number

Apologies for not making myslef clear I have dyslexia, no excuse i know but if people could refrain from nasty posts that would be great thank you.

When did you start work @BBlueberrymuffin03

hopelesslydevotedtoGu · 08/04/2023 12:12

There are a few potential explanations.

Your line manager could have got the date wrong.

It could be that you are paid a month in arrears, or thst you started after the cut off date for payroll, so you won't get paid until next month.

The usual date could be different this month due to the bank holiday.

There could be a payroll problem affecting everybody.

They could have not set your payroll profile up correctly.

If you have the contact details of a colleague, you could ask if they got paid yet.

Otherwise, nothing will happen over the bank holiday weekend. When the office reopens I would contact Payroll first thing to chase up.

Blueberrymuffin03 · 08/04/2023 12:14

Middle of March.

That's what I thought may of happened to begin with but the line manager seen my messages and ignored me.

Thats what has irritated me it's a long bank holiday and I'm stuck with no money and I work and their is nothing I can do about it.

I don't have a colleagues number but I've been round to her house (she only lives around the corner) but I haven't managed to speak to her.

You have to have a contract.
Company DBS just means they want to apply for one.
Is there an HR department?
This is terrible.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 08/04/2023 12:20

If you started middle of March then you may well have missed the cut off date for the payroll.

Motnight · 08/04/2023 12:21

Middle of March.

So around 3 weeks? You could have joined after payroll cut off then.

Honestly unless you are friends with this colleague, I wouldn't go to her house to ask her whether she has been paid. The answer isn't going to make a difference to your current issue.

I know that's why I asked the others if they had one they just laughed and said no.

I know apparently it costs 90 pound my other one cost 40/50

I don't know about HR but when I phoned payroll they were less than interested.

I am friends with her so it's fine.

When I was a temp on an hourly rate, I often found the agency would just never pay me in advance of bank holidays. So, if I usually got paid every Friday and it was a bank holiday, I'd get paid the next working day that wasn't a bank holiday.

It was a major pain in the backside but nothing could be done about it.

It's probably a similar payroll policy, I would imagine. Hopefully the money will reach your account on Tuesday.

He told me the date I'd get paid.
He has ignored my messages.

So if that was the case then he would of replied like he normally does.

The ladies at work told me this was not the case at Easter but you are correct about other bank holidays.

If this was the case the line manager would've answered me like he normally does.

He's probably just ignoring you because it's a bank holiday, people treat those a bit like Christmas, tools down early, stopping work early, ignoring any new work requests that come in.

I messaged him before the bank holiday 🤦🏻‍♀️
