Charge back

A while ago I did a charge back with my bank and 3 months later the company took the money back and the bank sided with them. I’ve had to do another charge back with a different company does anyone know how long the limit is for them to try to argue it back? 3 months seemed a long time for them to claim it back so just wondered if the same could happen again

What was the chargeback reason?

dementedpixie · 28/03/2023 15:29

And how could a different company do the chargeback for you?

wincywincyspider · 28/03/2023 15:31

I assume this a separate transaction you're doing another charge back on?

SpinningFloppa · 28/03/2023 15:33

Yes it was a separate transaction. Just wondering how long they have to dispute it as it came as a bit of a surprise when 3 months later the money was taken out of my account so there must be a limit?

This says it can be clawed back within 45 days so they were past that period and shouldn't have been allowed to do so.

You should have had communication about the retailer disputing the chargeback and asking for more information to substantiate your claim. My credit card company gives the retailer 45 days to dispute a chargeback request, I then had a month to substantiate. I think this is a set timescale by Mastercard but it may vary by financial institution.

How weird! My bank claimed they sent me an email saying the retailer disputed it but this was 3 months later and I didn’t get any email. They said I only had 10 days to respond apparently and I had missed that. I called them again and they wouldn’t refund me but gave me a good will gesture but it wasn’t the amount that was taken. I said to them at the time that it’s been 3 months so I completely forgot about it so how can they just take the money out of my account 3 months later and they said so what if it’s been 3 months?! This was Halifax….
