For those who use monzo or similar and put money into pots, would you mind sharing what pits you have or ones you didn’t think of at first but recommend.
I have just opened a monzo account to start managing my money better and would love to hear your pot suggestions

I have a pot to save up for car insurance, one to save up for Christmas, one to save for holiday, one to save for house things and then one to save up for treats for me. Each get varying amounts saved into them, some very small amounts, some don't get topped up each month but just as and when I can

Always have pots for days out, car expenses, kids clothes, pets, Christmas, specific people's birthdays.

Then I set up as hoc pots for things I want to save towards. Just emptied a pot I set up for holiday payment as that particular holiday came due for pyt, and I also currently have pots for holiday spending and a leisure course I'm saving for.

Also I use starling not monza but assume they're the same.

Thanks all, that’s really useful

On my personal account:

  • Bills
  • Week 4 (where I put aside "fun" money for the last week of the month)
  • Kids' clubs
  • Presents (birthdays, Christmas, Easter eggs, anniversary etc.)
  • Nice things (my spends)
  • Hair
  • Dinner money (for me and DC)

Joint account:

  • Bills
  • Food shop
  • Petrol
  • Rainy day (instant access savings)
  • Holidays 2023
  • Holidays 2024

Proper savings are with different banks.

In addition to what other pp have said, I also have a school uniform pot

My direct debits come out of my main bank account.
My FFF - food, fuel, fun come out of my second account.
My Monzo pots are:
Car service/repairs
Dentist and glasses
Garden and allotment - plants basically
House stuff - new towels, DIY stuff etc
Presents - all b’days, Xmas etc - £75pm
Holidays
Extra petrol - I have a self imposed 1 tank a month limit but this is when I really do need extra
Hair and beauty - haircuts, electrolysis
Extra fun - for the odd treat or takeaway.
Ellie’s wedding - niece is getting married in the autumn so this is for hotel room and gift.
