Universal credit help

Hoping someone can help with this. I'm trying to claim for universal credit for the first time. Currently pay for childcare via the tax free childcare account. I know you can't use both but if I've paid using that this month what figure do I put on the claim? If I don't put any childcare costs down I don't think we would be eligible. Do I have to wait to start a claim until next month and just pay childcare directly? If I do this and we aren't eligible for anything then I've ended up paying more. I don't want to claim twice but I can't see any guidance on transitioning between the 2 systems. I also have one child who has just started nursery this money but we haven't been billed for that yet.

It's such a confusing process.

You generally report your childcare costs once you have paid them. If the dates fall within your assessment period then you will be reimbursed for them.

eg: childcare paid on the 1st for the 1st to the 31st March. UC assessment 15th-14th- payday 20th. On the 20th you will get up to 85% of childcare for the 1st-14th.

apply for UC and they will calculate the costs based on your assessment period. I can’t comment on the tax free childcare bit sorry.
