Is it something to do with the fact that we moved last year? Would this change things and if so why? Was really looking forward to the extra bit of cash.

yes if you moved since april you may have to pay as your payments may be arranged differently cos of the change between the 2 occupiers.

BAsically council tax is charged april-april. The payments are worked out so that it is split into 10 equal payments - 1 a month for 10 months. If say, you move house in the middle of the april-april period, or you miss a payment or you have a different payment arrangement then you may have to pay during those months.

You still pay the same, but when and how much you pay has been changed.

they try and give 10mo to pay - ie Apr - Jan, but if you move later in the year they may to March if that is less than 10mo. It should have said on your bill.
