Hi all, I'm a soon to be 1st time Mum. I'm struggling to find the info I need from the government website so hoping someone can help here. My rent has been increased and I'm due to go on mat leave next month, so I'm panicking about paying rent! I was advised to look at child and working tax benefits but the government website says i need one to apply for the other, which is really confusing! Has anyone had to apply for both and if so how/when have you done it? to apply for child tax credit you need to already have working tax / to apply for working tax credit you need to have child tax benefit ?! Any help or advice greatly appreciated 🙏

It'll be universal credit you'll apply for.

WTC and CTC are old benefits and most have been moved over to UC now.

They're legacy benefits now, so unless you have a current claim, you can't claim them anymore.

You want to apply for universal credit, which has replaced working/child tax credits.

"Entitled to" is a good place to start get an idea of what you'll be eligible for. Just input your numbers as if you're already on mat leave to see what you'd qualify for.
