Car Break Down - Car Mechanic Problems

First of apologies if this is posted in the wrong place but it is kind off a money matter. I have got myself in a bit of a mess and really don't know what to do next.

I had been going to a garage for years and never had any problems with my car and got on great with the owner.

I moved to another area so had to take my car to another garage ever since I started to have one problem after another some of which my dad solved by replacing fuses. I then got to thinking all of these problems that seemed to crop up was more than usual, but my car was booked in with the same garage for an MOT.

I decided that maybe I was over thinking things and decided I would let the garage do the already agreed MOT as it was due and after this take it to a different garage in the future, to my relief the MOT came back good with no advisories.

However when I got the car home I noticed a strange high pitched sound but it was not really loud, i considered ringing the garage but was not sure if it had always been there and i had just not noticed it.

Anyway a few weeks later I broke down on the motorway and was towed to a nearby garage that I had never used before. They seemed very nice but it seemed a bacl street kind of outfit and It was not the type of place i would of chosen but I was really stuck as I had nowhere else to go and the car would not drive. They told me it sounded like it needed new spark plugs at most it would be 300 pounds, then they told me later it was the timing chain (not belt) and it all ended up at 750 pounds.

They told me the engine filter was black, the spark plugs were rusting and asked me if i had a recent service, which I had by the garage where i had the problems, they said that they should have been changed and the oil had been overfilled. They said they had changed all these and the car was now like new.

I trusted them and was going to make a complaint to the original garage, but when I went to my car the next day there were puddles of oil where the car had been parked after the cam belt changed, and the garage have said that they will pick it up have a look, but I have lost trust in them also, but still have a car that no longer works.

This is making ill with worry as I now feel these people were not up to the job and may have really damaged my engine and i no longer know what all the people have actually been doing to my car over the months, I am also really stuck without a car and am having to get taxis everywhere which is costing me money i dont have.

I feel like taking again to a new garage as I fear the last garage don't know what they are doing or could damage my car further etc

Any advice would be really appreciated - what a mess xxx
