Worried about our finances

Hi everyone

I’m a bit stressed about our finances.

we’re in our early 40’s 2 kids and 2 cats! We have a decent income between us but I’m worried that our outgoings are very high. We have a fair amount of debt that we are reducing on top of the mortgage. I don’t want to share the exact amounts.

we take home £6600 per month between us our mortgage, bills, food, debt payments and literally every last thing comes to £4200. This will get better in 2 years when some of the debts end.

our mortgage is likely to increase by about £300 when our fixed rate ends in June.

i’m probably overthinking it but I feel stressed and worried that we are so over committed

OP you must be spending lots on kids activities, hobbies etc to be worried about £2k?

newjobnewstartihope · 17/02/2023 20:26

Wtaf?
Seriously?
Read the room! I got to the end of the payday with £25 this month and that's a good month
This must be a wind up?

Nynynyny2018 · 17/02/2023 20:50

Wind up …are you bored this evening?

TiredandLate · 17/02/2023 20:54

Cool story.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/02/2023 21:10

Seriously you are stressing out having only £2k left a month so £500 a week or so left over

Many on here earn less than your £2k leftover

I'm not sure that 2.1k (once your mortgage increases) is enough. I think you really need to be thinking about cutting your cloth. Good luck

Maybe deliver pizzas at the weekend? I hear that pays a few thousand a month. Or drive for Uber. If you do the school runs you could clear £500 a week easy.

Locsup183 · 17/02/2023 22:06

This is surely a wind up 🙄

Bezzie81 · 18/02/2023 08:18

Thanks for everones comments. I can assure you this is no wind up. I am quite an anxious person which I think fuels a lot of this. We have only quite recently had this level of income. I think I just worry that such a large proportion of our money just seems to evaporate.

We need to surplus money to do some work to the house - nothing structural, or essential, but things that we would like to do.

Ok but you can literally save 24k per year to do this…..

"I can assure you this is no wind up" and yet here you still are...
Not sure what you're hoping to achieve from your post? Particularly as you don't seem to have read any of the responses.

Bezzie81 · 18/02/2023 12:25

Im
not sure what your point is? How do you know I’ve not read them all?

2k a month spare is plenty. I'm sure you'll cope just fine.
