Moving from Cornwall to Bristol

Hi

Really need some advice and wasn’t sure where to ask.
I don’t have kids - am looking to move from Cornwall to Bristol on my own but house prices in Bristol look really expensive. Can afford at a push 190k, am happy to catch a train to travel in. Where would anyone recommend? Want to feel safe as I’ll be moving to a new area on my own.

thank you

You need to post this on Property and DIY it’ll get much more exposure and responses.

@Abigail19867 - You might be able to get a flat in St Andrews / Bishopston / Horfield (North Bristol) or Totterdown / Knowle / Brislington (South Bristol) but it'll probably be a case of buying a doer-upper.

Think it’s very unlikely you’d get even a flat in the central areas (e.g St Andrews, Bishopston/Bedminster) for that budget unless you get lucky in an auction, the surrounding countryside tends to be fairly expensive too.

best bet would be to look in the outer suburbs, so Warmley, Kingswood, Bradley Stoke.

you could also look out towards Weston Super Mare which has fairly regular busses and trains into Bristol. Weston can be fairly rough in places though (which might seem strange for a seaside town, but there’s a lot of alcohol and drug addiction there) , so do check what the crime reports look like for a road.

There's a lovely 2-bed flat in Kingswood on Rightmove for £200k that might take an offer. It has 4 balconies, 900 years plus on the lease and no ground rent.

For £200k you'd probably be able to get a flat in an average area of weston super mare. As a pp mentioned Weston has good transport links to Bristol and it also has a good amount of stuff going on within the town itself.

As also mentioned Weston can be rough in places and definitely agree with pp's suggestion of looking at crime stats. That's true for a lot of places though, including Bristol, and there's also some very lovely areas of the town that have low crime and have lovely scenery on the doorstep.

Prices in Weston have been going up however and for the nicer areas I think £190-200k may not be possible unfortunately, depending on whether you want to prioritise desirable location, property size/space and how much work is required.

How about Keynsham near Bristol? I’ve never lived there but property prices are lower than Bristol.

We're doing the same @Abigail19867. Did you find anywhere you like?

Abigail19867 · 20/02/2023 11:58

Getthekernowlook There has been a set back so am stuck in Cornwall for the time being but these comments have been really helpful and in a couple of months hopefully when I do move I’ll know where to look

Stuck in Cornwall is not a nice feeling 😔 however exciting times are ahead. Another thread recommended Portishead but I've never been x

BillyMack · 20/02/2023 12:14

Portishead is lovely and very up and coming. The downside is it has poor transport links currently
