My balance is due on 27th feb. I had gone in and paid £96 of this and it is automatically taken from my bank account via direct debit. The statement still says £234 is due but what will come out of my account on the 27th will it be the full £234? Or will it have taken off the £96 and only take £138?

Someone told me if it's made 5 days before payment due date the system updates just my statement doesn't? Is this correct.

I made the payment of £96 on the 8th so long before 5 days before.

My bank would only take the £138 as you can’t pay more than your balance.

Depends on the credit card provider
You could always contact then and ask what their policy is

Warspite · 15/02/2023 22:07

I think you will find they will take the payment but LESS the £96 you’ve recently paid.
Check your statement in the next few days, on line. I think you will see the credit of £96 quite clearly represented.

I've just read it says previous statement is taken via DD on due date?

Who is the cc with? Different providers might do different things.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/02/2023 22:21

Barclaycard would still take the full payment.

From their FAQs:

Am I allowed to make manual payments if I have a Direct Debit set up?

Yes, absolutely. You can make manual payments at any time. Making a manual payment will typically result in a lower payment being collected by your Direct Debit. Please be aware though, if you make a manual payment within 5 working days of your Payment Due date, your Direct Debit amount may not be adjusted. We recommend you allow an extra working day for manual payments to take effect.

Depends what the DD is set up to do
Theres usually 3 options
Minimum repayment
Set/fixed amount or
Full balance.
If you've already made a payment then you would have met the minimum for this month so I assume its set to full balance. Have you got an app? It usually says available balance. I would have thought they'd take £138. You can always ask them on live chat or whatever messaging they use
