UC has anyone had income protection payment from work due to long term sick

I am hoping someone may have dealt with the same situation as I called UC and the person wasn't much help

I am currently on long term sick receiving a payment from group income protection my employer pays the premium for. My marriage has ended and I am trying to find out what I will be entitled to. The benefit calculators tell me if the payment is classed as an income they will take off the amount I can earn but if they class it as additional income I will have the whole amount removed from my award. This would mean I'd loose £800 a month.

From looking online if it was a policy I had paid for myself then I wouldn't pay tax on any of it making it an extra income. Because this is through my employer I am liable to pay tax on it ( I do because I also get ESA which is also taxable)

Has anyone been in this situation that could tell me if this will be classed as an income or additional income.

I know this is not what you are asking but I would have thought this payment would virtually wipe out any ESA. Do you claim ESA alongside Universal credit?

Ironically ESA do not class it as income as it's insurance. I am in the LCWRA group.

What I meant is does the income protection payment not affect your ability to claim ESA ? Do ESA know you are getting it?

Yes they know about the payment. As it is an insurance payment they do not count it as income so it doesn't affect my ESA. I get sent a letter every so often to confirm the amount I get
