Catalogue complaint

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right area to post this but I'm looking for some advice.

I have finally had resolution to an almost 9 months complaint with a well known catalogue company.

The complaint was upheld in my favour and the corrections were made to my account. It was admitted that at various stages they had failed. They also sent me a cheque of £30. I told them this wasn't acceptable due to how long it took to resolve, and the fact that no one was logging information correctly. I was on the phone a few times every week for well over an hour. A few calls were over 2 hours. I was spoken to rudely (upheld) on several occasions and made to cry being told that regardless of having proof of returns I still need to pay for the items or risk debt collectors. It caused me alot of stress as it was errors of over £700! It was only sorted a day before I was due to be charged a considerable amount of interest.

I've emailed the handler a few times since asking what to do with the cheque? I have advised them I am going to the ombudsman. But do I still cash their cheque or would that be accepting their offer?

I really dont believe £30 is acceptable when their turn around is 14 days in the first instance and then 8 weeks with investigations. This took 9 months

Thanks for any advice

That's an interesting one and I don't really know the answer.

I'd try posting in legal matters and see if you get any responses in there Flowers

Thank you

Did you sign anything at any point agreeing to their offer? Or did they just send you a cheque.

plumduck · 08/02/2023 07:11

I am in no way a legal person but I wouldn't cash the cheque as it could be construed as an acceptance

Don't cash the cheque if you don't accept their offer

Anono2022 · 08/02/2023 13:47

This is what I thought. So im not cashing it.

I'll contact FOS and see what they say.

I really dont think such a small amount is acceptable. It went on for so long. There were numerous errors on their part which they admitted and quite frankly caused me alot of stress and upset.

They didn't even offer it. Just sent it
