I'm so confused. I have had my renewal notification and it states I have 3 years no claims bonus. But I had a claim in 2021. So surely I only have 1 year no claim? Have I misunderstood what the no claims bonus is?

Was it protected no claims?

No definitely no protected. And my claim was me at fault.

You probably have protected no claims, have a look at your insurance documents. You pay a higher premium (I think) so that if you claim you don't loose you ncd.

If you didn't have protected no claims discount, and had a fault claim, it normally reduces your no claim discount by 2 years. You'd have gained a year being claim free then you'll have what was left from your claim. You can normally only protect your NCD at 4 years. Your schedule should explain it but you can always ask your insurance company who I'm sure would be happy to check for you.

I've checked my documents and definitely not protected my no claims. I'll have to ask them , they are online only so not easy to contact but I'll have to try and get to the bottom of it. I hope I haven't made a mistake somewhere. I just renewed with them last year and I don't remember noticing this then. My claim was with them and it's listed that I had 1 claim.
