£0 child maintenance

Dorset6 · 18/01/2023 19:13

I've had a text from Child Maintenance saying that my new payment plan is £0 per week.

Child maintenance is paid by my ex husband and there is a non contact order in place so I can't find out why it has gone down to 0.

Has anyone had this happen to them before and can suggest why it might be?

How many nights does the child stay with you and your ex?

excelledyourself · 18/01/2023 19:16

Has he chucked his job?

Outtasteamandluck · 18/01/2023 19:17

Is it usual to get texts from them ?

Can you ring them and find out ?

sanityisamyth · 18/01/2023 19:17

Ah just read the bit about non-contact order. So Dc doesn't go to ex? Has he declared himself bankrupt or unemployed?

bloodyeverlastinghell · 18/01/2023 19:18

Not earning and not claiming benefits. I know someone this happened to. His company paid his new partner a salary he earned nothing on paper. Worked mainly cash in hand.

She got nowhere despite trying for years. I hope it’s easier for you.

Thanks, we don't rely on him at all financially money and no one sees him at all. He was on benefits so we got something like £6 a week previously. Maybe he has gone bankrupt but then surely he'd still have his benefits? I guess I'm just wondering if he's gone back to prison or died... He's not in my life anymore but he's still the father of my children.

I’ve just read this on a legal website
“Child maintenance stops if the parent receiving child maintenance refuses child contact and won't let the other parent have a relationship with the child”

could it be he’s contesting the no contact?

In the uk? Which website?

Dorset6 · 18/01/2023 20:10

The no contract is an old court order that lasts until they're 18 so it can't be that. There's nothing to contest.

That's so immoral of them. I'm sorry you had such a horrible time of it. Some people have no scruples.

I think he may have died or has a disabled child.

PeekAtYou · 18/01/2023 21:42

Being a student, stay at home parent or not claiming benefits and living off someone else can also lead to zero CM owed.

That can't be a UK website.
In the UK contact and money are separate issues. You can see your child even though you're not paying CM and you can not see your child but owe CM.

Completely not true.

Mine had nil rate when he went to prison. The rest of the time was the flat rate of £7. He didn't pay that either 🤣

yousmellnice · 21/01/2023 21:41

Maybe he died?

SpinningFloppa · 21/01/2023 21:45

I get zero as my ex doesn’t work or claim benefits, if he is claiming benefits it’s possible for him to not have to pay anything if he has “priority debts”

Anotheanon · 21/01/2023 21:48

Stopped claiming and working cash in hand?

MoscowMules · 21/01/2023 21:50

Back to prison would be my guess.

It's the only way CM would have known, as the reception team in custody will have informed benefits and cm of his "new status"

Child maintenance not being seen as a priority debt makes me so angry

I can’t remember exactly but it’s something like 14th on the list so if there are other debts before it he won’t have to pay

This is not true though. Contact has zero relevance to legal responsibilities

Timeforsinging81 · 21/01/2023 23:03

Yep same here. Ex is living off of his savings and cash in hand/eBay selling. No j

Timeforsinging81 · 21/01/2023 23:04
  • no job and no benefits allow him to work the system like so many other useless fathers 🙄
