Natwest - speak to person. Ha ha ha. VENT.

Just need to vent.
I fucking hate that you can't speak to a person.
You have to be patronising by a robot first.
Finally ended up in a queue, only to be told 'high demand' (does any service have anything other than high demand these days?) with no indication how long I will need to wait.

This is why I have put off trying to resolve my problem for so long, I end up wanting to thump someone.

So I took to social media (FB) and chatted to someone there and resolved my problem in less than a few minutes.
I guess I'm showing my age, I don't tend to turn to SM for financial/admin matters.

A bank conversation on facebook? That's infuriating.

FB messenger, not on their main page!

Well, yes, but why were you forced to do that?

maryberryslayers · 10/01/2023 16:13

NatWest are ridiculous. I voted with my feet. I can speak to a person in under a minute with my current bank.

Oh I see.
I don't mind in this instance, it was a small issue (lost account number), not getting a mortgage or something.

I have told myself all banks in fact everything is like this now? It's almost a shock when you call a service and a real person answers and even more shocking when they can actually answer your question.

@maryberryslayers who do you bank with?

@TheOrigRights First Direct. They are fantastic and very helpful

EmmaEmerald · 10/01/2023 17:16

I rang Bacrlays this morning. It took a few minutes of menus, then I got a very nice helpful lady after about 2 mins on hold. There was the standard message about long waits though.

serenghetti2011 · 10/01/2023 17:27

Haha my boyfriend works for rbs/NatWest he’s very nice but puts up with an awful lot, people screaming and shouting at him but he also says he wouldn’t bank with them either, he says they have to get so many people signed up to voice id per day etc he hates it. He’s with first direct too and really likes them 😄

SenseiOfDuty · 10/01/2023 17:33

NatWest have been appalling the last few months with my mum. I've been tweeting on social media and the social media team just say "oh we're the social media team we can't actually help you". Meanwhile the complaints department won't speak in the phone.

Been waiting for a "5 working days" return telephone call since 23rd December. Finally got it, today.

All this to try and resolve a situation which NatWest admitted they created in error and have offered compensation for.

Did you see the reports over the weekend over the two tier customer service?

Closing my account and my mum's

I was fit to combust last time I tried to sort something out with Natwest. Their AI chatbot Cora is so infuriating - leads me through a series of questions NONE OF WHICH HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT I AM CALLING ABOUT while I get increasingly frustrated so by the time I do get to speak to an actual person, I'm pretty tetchy to say the least.

Cora did tell me not to be rude when I entered "FFS".

I had a job for a bit in the complaints department of the Financial Services Authority. NatWest had tons of complaints back then but were quite good at resolving them because they had loads of practice. Lloyds had hardly any complaints but those they did have dragged on for years. Not sure much has changed it seems.

So in conclusion....keep your money under the mattress!

A response to my complaint. They agree they are shit and gave me £50.

Well that's the summary - the email was the usual bla bla but it was good to read "...and we agree".

Drinks are on me!

Move your account to First Direct, they always score highly in terms of customer feedback.

I'm with Natwest for my current account and credit cards, and have always been impressed with how quickly they answer the phone. I think once I waited more than 5 minutes but other than that they answer within a minute or two. The last time I called Barclays on the other hand I was on hold for at least half an hour.

NearlyMidnight · 19/01/2023 20:08

I'm with First Direct - always get to talk to someone who can help. So much more pleasant and quicker than trolling through options that have nothing to do with my query.

Can you tell us the phone number?
