Hi

Just looking for any advice please? We are renovating a house, not an old property maybe 25-30 years old. We are renting while the extension is being built. In the extension is a new kitchen and upstairs bedroom with en suite. Got original quote from builder about a year ago and like everything else the cost has escalated. Messaged builder about a month ago to say we are way over budget and can he give us an breakdown of what's still to pay as we need to borrow the rest of the money. He gave us a breakdown for electrician, plumber, joiner etc. Fast forward 3 weeks and the invoice for electrician comes through, double what he quoted 3 weeks ago. When asked he said he made a mistake and the house had to be rewired. We were never told house was being rewired. Tried to speak to the electrician who said he was never asked for an estimate and there has been a lot of work done. The electrician has since taken some of the labour off the bill which reduced it slightly. We feel the builder should compensate us for the huge mistake but he thinks an apology is enough and we need to just suck it up. Can anyone offer any advise please?
Thanks

All costs have escalated, were you not informed along the way of what electric work was being done. What was detailed on the first quote?

We were aware when building recently of what was covered and what extra things costed. Our builder gave us an updated quote before he started based on new prices so it wasn't a complete shock.

No we haven't been updated at all. Most thing have been £1-2k over what was originally estimated, every time I asked I just got told it was because of rising costs. It's the fact I messaged him then 3 weeks later the price had doubled. He just said he'd quoted for electricity in the extension and not for older part of the house
