Virgin internet cancellation fee

Hello- I’m moving to Switzerland in a month and I have 12 months left out of an 18 month virgin internet contract. When I cancel it will cost me a few hundred pounds as per my contract. I’m fully aware that this is in my contract but I was wondering if anybody has been able to successfully negotiate something like this/ have VM waive. I know it’s a long shot, just wondering how much effort I should put trying. Probably a long shot but Virgin media have a lot more money than I do. I have zero leverage here but the idea of spending £300+ on nothing is stressful with the huge cost of the move. Many thanks :)

If you’re only moving for twelve months, they might allow you to “pause” the subscription for a while. That’s the best that I’ve heard of, recently.

Nope, they charge you a disconnection fee too and then demand their router back, fail to come and get it or provide a means to return it, and send increasingly threatening letters telling you they will charge you £100 if you don’t return it. Fuckers.

Thank you for the replies- sounds like there’s not too much hope. It’s a permanent move so I could just flee the country and have bad credit in the U.K. haha.
I’ll try and transfer to a friend if I can, or just suck up the cost!

I had luck emailing the CEO.

If you are moving home to an area that virgin media don’t cover they waive the early disconnection fee. Not sure if that applies when you go abroad, you could always be moving to some nice remote spot of Scotland. 😉

They don’t cover abroad.. but I didn’t consider that I could be moving to a remote island not covered by VM. Great suggestion :D
