is Paypal safe ?

I don't have any experience of paypal though I do have an account and would be grateful for any advice from seasoned paypal users.

If you were receiving money from a person you don't know ie selling something online, providing a service etc, would you use paypal to receive the money or would you send them your bank account details. Once they have paid into paypal, can a transfer be reversed? I don't want to let the item go and then find out the money has disappeared from the paypal account.

Thanks

Hi PayPal offers buyers protection so if they pay then they could dispute and if PayPal find in their favour then they will give them their money back from your account. If someone does a bank transfer then they can't get their money back however they will have your sort code and account number which means they could set up direct debits.

I love paypal, used it for years. Be careful with online selling and always log into you account via the app, don't use links sent by others.

thanks so much for your replies.

What do I have to do to get them to pay into my account? what information do I need to send them? or do I send them a request for payment?

You can send a request or give them your email address for them to send payment x

I can't see how setting up direct debits would be that easy with all the security needed to log into my account. The bank would also text an alert message for me to query if it's not me setting up the DD.

Making charges to your account via your sort code & account number themselves isn’t as much an issue as it’s made out to be

But if someone has trusted access to the banking system they can, as happened to Jeremy Clarkson when he published his details to make the point - and the Diabetic association set up a direct debit
