Taking on a loan/additional borrowing - should we apply for full amount?

We are looking into the option of borrowing/taking out a loan to pay for fertility treatment (husband has a condition which means we won’t have children without needing IVF/ICSI).

Treatment is expensive and uncertain, and in an ideal world we would love to have more than one child (so we anticipate we may need multiple rounds of treatment = added expense).

My question is: financially, does it make sense to borrow the total sum now (larger amount which could pay for 2 or 3 rounds of treatment), and put into savings until we are ready to try for a second child in the future - likely within 5 years.

Or,

Do we borrow just what we think we’ll need for the first child, and borrow again in the future for the second round of treatment?

Looking ahead, our household income could reduce after our first child until they go to school so i’m not sure what amount/options would be available to us if we were to borrow later down the line.

What would you do?
