Nothing for DH so we both have premium bond twins, people in the county with the same or similar holding purchased at a similar time, raising hopes about wins

Hopingforno2in2023 · 06/01/2023 18:18

£100 today so £175 since September. On almost 7k.

That's really good! I won £50 in total in a similar amount for 2022

Crimsonbow · 06/01/2023 22:39

Hi everyone. My dad had been pestering me for a while to use some inheritance myself and my 2 DCs got for premium bonds. I couldn't decide where to put the DCs and I'm hoping to spend mine in the next year or so.

Anyway, I lurked on the old thread and finally bit the bullet. This month was our first month and we had
1 x £1000
2 x £100
1 x £50
on 30k total. I couldn't believe it! Dad is now very smug. I imagine this means we won't win again this year.

Eaumyword · 06/01/2023 22:44

Wowser - that's fantastic!

Dyrne · 06/01/2023 23:02

Really pleased so many people seem to already be seeing the benefit of the increased prizes!!

daisychain01 · 07/01/2023 07:38

Am I the only saddo who likes clicking on the app to see the latest countdown to the next draw Grin it's the bouncy S that does it.

26 days until 2 Feb and as Feb is a short month, March will be quicker yay!

between that and the occasional Euromillions draw (we only buy a ticket if the jackpot is >£50M) it's a low cost way of having a flutter.

Nope. I do it too 😂

RubbishDay · 07/01/2023 07:40

Me too 😆

Daisymay2 · 07/01/2023 12:37

Hurumph.
For the first time in over a year neither me nor either DS have won anything at all. Usually one of us gets something. We've been really lucky as the biggest holding is about £30K
So much for the increase in prizes though. 😦

Ajayjay · 07/01/2023 12:50

£100 win for my DD on 4k savings, she had £25 win in Oct so £125 in total. SD won £25 in Sept on 2k saving.

slithytoveisascientist · 07/01/2023 16:59

Ive just bought my first PB and I was wondering if someone could help with my question - if I put some into my kids names are they in my kids names forever?

If I did that and a kids account won the million (I can but dream) does it go to them? As with two children that wouldn't sit well with me and I'd rather keep it all under my name.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/01/2023 17:30

Yes it would legally go to them and possibly only their bank account

zighead · 07/01/2023 17:48

You would have full control of their account and any winnings until they turn 16.

Adviceneeded200 · 07/01/2023 18:03

@slithytoveisascientist

Yes, it will be theirs. I suspect you would be considered as their Trustee/Nominee and so have to legally use it or save it in their best interests.

Our kids had 5k each in PB when they were about 10 years old from a inheritance. They agreed to keep any prizes up to £100 and share bigger ones but neither ever did win more. If one had won big and refused though I don't suppose the agreement would stand.

Full control. But for them

she wouidnt be able to take the million or £25k etx for her own use

I’m not sure that is correct. Nobody is going to be checking that the parents don’t spend the money or share it equally with the other children of the family. The parents in charge of the premium bonds for the child can sell them any time they want regardless of who bought them. Until they are 16 and then you can’t even buy them premium bonds any more, they can only buy their own.

Ames85 · 07/01/2023 19:48

You can put money in and out of the children’s accounts, as you please, until the age of 16. We have done this a number of times. My children agreed to split any prizes over £100. I was not willing to set up bonds for them otherwise, as I would like their start in life to be equal. Obviously what happens next as adults is up to them

bluebutterfly2023 · 07/01/2023 20:35

Is it better to buy premium bonds in one large amount or smaller amounts or does it not make any difference to the chances of winning?

UrsulaPandress · 07/01/2023 20:37

I don’t think it makes any difference. Every bond is included individually I believe.

OneFrenchEgg · 07/01/2023 20:58

How do I buy Premium Bonds for children under 16?

Premium Bonds can make a special gift for a child under 16. Until the child’s 16th birthday, the parent or guardian named on the application looks after the Bonds, regardless of who bought them.
We’ll send confirmation of any transactions made, prizes won and payment for cashed-in Bonds to the nominated parent or guardian until the child is 16.

Adviceneeded200 · 07/01/2023 22:08

@zighead

In the future, if the child finds out, I believe they can sue the parent. They have to act in child's best interests.

slithytoveisascientist · 07/01/2023 23:52

Thanks for advice, inclined to just keep them in my name then!

The child might when older

will see what prizes has won and query why doesn’t have £25k or even more if won one of the bigger prizes

far better to have in own name unless up to 50k yourself

A bit of a revelation here, which has solved a mystery about some PBs we bought.

About 2 years ago, I gifted money to my DH in PBs. I added (what I thought was) his PB unique number onto my iPad app so we could check our numbers together, and for the past couple of years we've been doing our normal thing of checking the App every month.

I've won a few prizes over that time, but DH has never won anything, which kinda felt strange as I would have thought £15K would have won even if it was a £25 prize.

Meanwhile we noticed a few times we were receiving what at first glance looked like a genuine advice into our family email account (probably about 4 times) saying DH had won a prize. Because the App was telling us he hadn't won anything we convinced ourselves it was a scam so we deleted the emails. I'm always particularly cynical, DH just shrugs, he leaves all that stuff to me Grin

Yesterday, for some reason I thought I'd try adding the PB app onto my Samsung phone. Added it, then entered my PB unique ID and got the Lovely Lady Quaffing Champers as I'd won the prize in January. I then entered DH's PB number and ...... drumroll..... up comes the LLQC!! £50 which was a nice surprise.

It then occurred to me, hmmm maybe DHs PB number was wrong on my IPad. Checked and yes it was the wrong number so it wasn't picking up his winning numbers. Goodness knows which number I entered, it wasn't his NS&I number and it wasn't his PB number, I had entered a mix of alpha numeric. Silly me. Anyway I checked our bank account and thankfully we had set up his account so any winnings from both our accounts were credited to our current account. Difficult to have picked up whose winners were whose, as they just add a long convoluted reference on the credit plus PBZ. In all we had £50 in July and another couple of £25's from his numbers, but hopefully with the increased allocations of numbers maybe we will get lucky.

It did solve the mystery of the very convincing PB emails saying he had won, because he had!

Moral of the story, when downloading the app make sure you check that your entering the right number, because the App doesn't tell you "You've entered an unrecognisable PB number" it just accepts whatever you enter, and you're none the wiser, which is actually a bit rubbish. I bet it doesn't integrate with their database to match IDs.

I might ring them today and let them know as the other rubbish thing is that to get the complete list of your winnings beyond just "Last6 Months", you have to logon to your account and we tried numerous times but it just took us back to the logon screen, none of the normal "you've entered the wrong password" nothing, just back to the beginning. Grrrr.

NS&I get a Nul Points rating from us for their IT systems! Too many convoluted steps, NS&I number and separate PB number (confusing), poor error handling, poor logon experience for accessing user account.
