Maternity Allowance 1st Payment

Anyone that's claimed MA recently, did you get your first payment before you got your decision letter in the post?

The strikes with RM are obviously causing postal delays. My MA is due to start from the 18th December, they have said anything owed will be backdated but I'm just wondering if anyone recently has been though the motions of this similar situ.

I can’t help I’m afraid but I’m in the same situation. I sent my letter off a month ago and I still haven’t received a decision. Annoyingly I suspect further delays as HMRC won’t let me pay my NI contributions until the decision letter, so I’ll have to receive that with the lower amount and then call HMRC and apply for the higher amount.

Due to start leave on Friday so hopefully they can backdate it.

Hello @PcosSOS Yes mine is now sorted, I got a text message to say it's been awarded and payments are starting from January 😊

I think MA can be backdated for a period of so many months, but it's worth checking. They have always been helpful wherever I've phoned up.
