Mobile damaged - what options do I have?

Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice. Have a new mobile contract with Sky - an Iphone 11, took it out in August 2022.

In October it stopped working and sent it back to Sky and they have said the water damage indicator has been activated and so said I am not covered and it will cost £405 to fix.

I rang my house insurance but the excess is £350.

It is my daughter's phone and she said she didn't get it wet but I don't know what else I can do.

Any advice as to what my options are?

Thank you so much
X

  1. Pay for a repair. Find a local repairer who will be cheaper than Apple.
  2. Attempt to repair it yourself www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+Liquid+Damage+Repair/95280
  3. Buy a cheap refurbished phone to put the SIM card in. See if you can sell the iPhone 11 to a company prepared to fix it to recover some of the money that you will be paying on the contract.

I don’t know how old your daughter is but as you are taking responsibility for sorting this out I presume she’s a child. In future buy her a cheaper refurbished phone and get a SIM only deal for £5 a month.

If she’s not a child, it’s her problem not yours.
