Maternity pay

Hello, I have been working a job for two years at a salary of 38k. I had a temp promotion to 42k and not this has been made perm on 52k.

However the latest raise comes in after the qualifying period of maternity pay.

Does anyone know which salary I will get maternity on? Feels unfair not to get it on my salary at 52k as it is a perm job at that salary.

Any advise please?

Gov.uk has a calculator as need pay on certain weeks of pregnancy to calculate

Fluffygoon · 27/11/2022 09:16

you can input your salary details into the calculator in the attached link - it’s done on how much you were paid between various dates:

It’s based on what you’re earning during certain qualifying weeks.

I’m sure the qualifying week is just to check you’ve been there long enough to get enhanced mat pay, my work policy doesn’t talk about any salary dependencies. Does yours?

Beggingforsleep · 27/11/2022 09:20

Reading the other replies I guess it’s whether your company does stat maternity pay or if they offer enhanced

piglet81 · 27/11/2022 09:22

Looked it up - it’s the 15th week before the expected week of confinement (you’ll need your Matb1 form to check this).

It might seem unfair and the occupational maternity pay element will vary from one organisation to another.
Ours is based on an average over a set 8 week period. So is worked out i think from weeks 17 to 25.

I might seem unfair to you now, but if you were in a job where you ordinarily work long hours/night etc, and you had to reduce your hours or not work unsocial hours towards the end of pregnancy, then you would lose out if its based on what you earn just before you start mat leave.

So I won't get maternity pay based on my current role (level) or job title?

Your SMP needs to be recalculated using your new salary.

This link explains in detail and I've added a screenshot to help.
