How long for mortgage offer?

Hey just seeing what time scale everyone else has been on lately.
We've applied with Newcastle building society and their website says "a month or two"
It hasn't been long at all but I am worrying about being denied as my other half gets paid part cash (has provided payslips and contact details for his work's accountant)

Last time we applied for a mortgage (HSBC) we didn't have to provide so much info and it only took 6 days for the offer to come through. We ended up with the chain collapsing and our offer expiring on that one so had to find another house and start again and went with a different lender.

I've paid for the valuation and sent everything over so just keeping fingers crossed but wondering how long it's taken others?

I work in mortgages and have done for 20 years. We are currently in our busiest period for the whole 20 years I've been there
Our service is usually brilliant. It's currently shocking. We just can't catch up and volumes just keep coming. We're well over a month now from submission to offer.
Being paid in cash will likely cause issued unless every penny of that cash is paid into the bank. Very unusual to be paid in cash nowadays. Most banks want 2 part verification of income so payslips and bank statements
