Switching from PAYE to direct debit student loan repayments - to what extent can the SLC muck it up?!

As I’m in my final year of paying back my student loan, I will switch to paying back the final instalments via direct debit instead of through PAYE.

Knowing how incompetent the SLC is though, I am concerned that they will take both PAYE and DD in the same month/s, rather than PAYE stopping and DD starting.

I can’t afford to pay double! Please can anyone who’s done this let me know how straightforward or otherwise it was?

thank you.

Mine was straightforward and actually I had a month where I didn’t pay at all, while it was changed over, which was nice! I did email my employer to confirm as well, not sure if that was necessary.

Mine was also fine!

Also when I had about 3 months left to go I paid it off as a lump sum, miraculously no cock ups then either! No direct debit taken the following month.

Oh this is good news. A month off would be lovely actually, could chuck it at the gas bill!

thanks both.

I did it redlcently. They had a glitch and didn't actually set it up, then contacted me to apologise and approve the payment. I've had about 3 month off which was nice.
