Hi all. My son was awarded high rate dla in September. I applied for carers allowance and its been 6 weeks. I called today and its with a decision maker. Does anyone know how much longer I'll be waiting to hear back? Thanks

My BIL claim took seven weeks (this was with a disabled parent) for a decision. Hopefully you will get a decision shortly.

Claim actually processed pretty quickly (about 4 weeks I think), elderly relative who already had higher rate attendants allowance.

Fingers crossed it comes through soon for you.

Thankyou guys. Fingers crossed it comes this side of Xmas lol x

Hi is just applied for carers allowance are you any better off claiming it or do they just take of off ur uc xx

alexdgr8 · 22/11/2022 17:49

even if they do take it off something else, it's important to claim so that you ate registered with DWP as a carer.
this may be important years later as it covers you for national insurance contributions.
otherwise you might not get the full state pension.
people have been caught out by this.
similarly for GPs providing childcare.
if in doubt, always check.

Jo197 · 22/11/2022 18:13

Ok thank you

Jo197 · 23/11/2022 12:51

@Oilytoe90 have you heard anything yet xx

Oilytoe90 · 23/11/2022 12:54

@Jo197 yes. Dm rang me yesterday afternoon saying I was entitled and I'll receive a backdate this week and a letter in the post. Wasn't helpful as she wouldn't tell me how much to expect 🙄. But it's been backdated to when my son was awarded dla x

It's counted as income but you do get a carers premium on top

Novemberhater · 23/11/2022 13:11

My decision took four weeks. I was awarded £0 as my tiny income was too high, but I'm officially a carer now as the letter states which helps me access other services.

Jo197 · 07/12/2022 17:52

Does anyone know if they back date carers allowance do they take it all at once from ur uc or can you lay it back over a period of time

Clairewright010 · 10/01/2023 17:02

Is anyone still waiting? I sent early November and sent additional information end of November, was with decision maker week before Xmas but still haven’t heard.

Jo197 · 10/01/2023 20:42
