Why doesn't Octopus show daily cost of usage? / What's the point of a smart meter?

We have inherited a smart meter from the previous occupants. We have it set up so it sends half hourly readings to Octopus, and I can see on my app how much gas an electricity we have used each day.

I was anticipating that, because Octopus therefore know how much energy we have used, our cost of that usage would be debited from the account daily.

But, no! The only way I see how much it costs is if I submit a manual reading (why, who knows!). So let's say I submit one every three days, only then do I see how much the last three days has cost me.

(As a side note, every time I submit a manual reading, they send me a paper bill. Everrrry time. Apparently there is no way to go paperless!)

So, what is the point of a smart meter if a) it doesn't tell me the daily cost of my energy and b) I still have to submit manual readings to find out what my bill is?!

You're missing the IHD, which is what shows that stuff. But yes to Loop - it's free and easy to set up.
