Apply for more than 1 mortgage?

Can anyone advise if you are able to apply for more than 1 mortgage at a time?

We're on a fixed rate until Jul 2023. Crunched the numbers and worked out it's best to pay early repayment charge to get out now and on to the best fixed rate we can get before they go up even more. This is a remortgage on our current property, we won't be moving.

We started an online application at weekend and have a video call appointment next week to proceed with application. We did speak to them to arrange the call and we know the rate is agreed when we get the offer and valid until end Feb 2023. We can wait right up to 28th Feb before completing with the offer.

If in this time a better rate/deal comes up with another lender, are we able to apply for that instead? Or does it have an impact on credit score?

You are, but you would need to contact the first lender and cancel your application.

Multiple credit searches won't do you any favours and neither will a lender seeing that you have applied for multiple mortgages, although of course if a cheaper deal comes up many people will be doing a similar thing
