FTB, trying to work out whats sensible with the upcoming cost of living crisis.

OP posts:
TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 25/09/2022 17:40

About a third of my monthly wage covers half of the mortgage and half of all bills.

Ermengarde · 25/09/2022 17:43

17%

TheProvincialLady · 25/09/2022 17:43

It’s about 1/7th

spanieleyes · 25/09/2022 17:43

QueenofLouisiana · 25/09/2022 17:43

Just me: about 25%
Jointly: about 10%

We are at the tail end of paying it off, 4y 6m to go, never extended it or added to it.

Dotcheck · 25/09/2022 17:44

Just under 1/4

Cliffordthebigreddog · 25/09/2022 17:46

18% of joint income

AlwaysAnonymous · 25/09/2022 17:47

On my own around 60% but jointly apparently 18% (had to use a percentage calculator on Google!).

red4321 · 25/09/2022 17:48

Just under 3%( but I have an interest only mortgage)

Myownpapillon · 25/09/2022 17:49

20% jointly

Treacletoots · 25/09/2022 17:51

18%

The bank actually offered us double what we've borrowed but we think that would be utter insanity because when the interest rates go up to 5, 6 or 7% we couldn't afford that mortgage.

Dh and I have both lived through the interest rate rise of the 90s and early 00s when mortgages went from 3.5% to 9.5%

I'd be very cautious OP and fix for as long as you possibly can.

autumn1610 · 25/09/2022 17:53

About 22% for me or with my partner 12%

titchy · 25/09/2022 17:55

Two thirds of my take home goes to mortgage, bills and final year of dc uni costs.

DarkDarkNight · 25/09/2022 17:55

I’m a single mum, it’s 26% of my take home pay. I wish I had a partner to share the bills with as it’s a struggle.

middleofthelittle · 25/09/2022 17:57

20% as we've just bought our long term home.

We're going to keep at 20% even when our income increases to our off our mortgage sooner.

We earn 6.5k between us after tax plus 20k annual bonus.

Generally the more you earn the higher the percentage you can afford as you have more income for other bills and living costs.

YumYummy · 25/09/2022 17:58

Mine has varied from 55% (yikes) to 0%.

Shinyandnew1 · 25/09/2022 18:00

8%, but we are overpaying it now to get it paid off so paying more like 17%.

Stripedbag101 · 25/09/2022 18:01

20%. I am single.

I find this quite manageable.

over2021 · 25/09/2022 18:01
