Putting cash in bank - affect credit score/mortgage application?

I just saw an article about £20 paper notes not being usable come the end of September. I've got a pile of money from birthdays, Christmases and our wedding lying in a drawer, I really need to get off my arse and put it in the bank at least.

I just checked and there was over £500 cash in £20 paper notes alone. Can I just deposit this in a bank and will it affect my credit score or mortgage application? I'm filling in an affordability for just now and need to get my credit score before I can apply. I have no idea about money stuff but if I have to show payslips will they want to know where it came from and stuff?

Thanks

Nope will not affect your credit score in any way at all ,if they ask when depositing it (probably not as not a huge amount and not something you do regularly, so do not worry from a money laundering POV) just be honest and say it's money saved up through time.

Due to the £20 withdrawal they will have a few people in your position banking them.

Thanks so much. I'm terrible with money (and being an adult in general!) and this mortgage form wants to know all my spending habits so wasn't sure where I stood! Glad it won't affect things. Much appreciated.
