Universal credit identity check

We applied for UC on August 8th. We were asked to verify our identities via Government Gateway and did. We had a confirmation message that our identity checks were successful. The next step is the phone call, except we haven't had it. I eventually asked on our journal, and the message I got was that DH still needed to verify his identity at the job centre. His appointment isn't until Thursday, which is a bit stressful because our Tax Credits stopped immediately and we can't get an advance until they've decided that he is eligible for UC.

DH has been told that he needs to bring proof of his NI number, and proof of his EU settled status (he is British??).

Any advice please?

I've not dealt with this before but I have experience of providing ID as I've had many contract jobs, for NI ID you will need either your NI card or if you no longer have that (most people don't have these as they are issued when you are 16) then you need to provide a payslip from your current or last employers as this will have your NI number on or any documentation you have from the inland revenue, for proof of settled status a passport should be fine.

Thank you, it was more about the why than the what. Why does he need to prove settled status when Government Gateway has checked his passport number and said it was fine?

I had to go to the job centre to prove my details. I’m a British citizen.

all he has to do it take his ID. It’s not a big deal. If UC didn’t do checks anyone could get money fraudulently

@MadonnasKebab thank you. It was the fact that he has already proved his identity through Government Gateway. I did also, and I don't need to go to the job centre. I've phoned them and we have worked out what the issue is now.

It gets better. Tax credits have been told that I got a full year of carers allowance in the period April-August '22. They say carers allowance department needs to fix the error. Carers allowance department say they always report the full year amount (because usually it's for a renewal). @baby

It’s a glitchy system. Tell him to take his passport with him and they’ll iron it out at the Jobcentre.

The carrrs allowance thing might take a bit longer to unpick, but be persistent.
