IHD / daily energy usage

Two things -

Firstly my IHD (In home device for smart metre) shows that I used 0.16p/4.38kWh on Saturday but my EDF app is showing my usage as 0.43p/4.4kWh for gas... There is a difference between my electric use too. Has anyone else had this happen or knows why? I'm waiting on EDF getting back to me.

Secondly - what are you using on average, or what did you use yesterday for example? Ive done loads of measures to cut back in prep for all these price increases and our usage has definitely gone down therefore our bills haven't increased by much in comparison to last year but I'm living in fear of the next rise as we already pay the absolute maximum our budget allows and that's without heating on.

Really looking to see how we are fairing in comparison and get tips for bringing the usage down further. We already do cool quick showers, have smart sockets so everything is off when we leave a room, light off at night when watching TV...

I used £1.11/5.84kWh electric and £. 07/1.86kWh gas in a 3 bed, old house with 2 adults and 2 kids (stay at home parent so house busy all day)

Going to add to this as the kids were out yesterday afternoon so day before our usage was

Electricity £1.75/9.2kWh
Gas 0.34p/9.06kWh

I had smart meters fitted early in July. At first the IHD appeared to be showing a true reflection of my usage and cost but then suddenly just over a week ago the daily costs went haywire.

I emailed Octopus and was told that sometimes the IHD can give inaccurate costs to customers.

Great. I wanted something I could rely on to monitor my daily costs, especially with rates going up again in October, January and possibly April.

If they can't do that then what is the point of smart meters. I was already submitting monthly meter readings so was getting monthly, accurate bills anyway.

Oh really? Seems a bit pointless then. Especially seeing as you can get quite big differences.

My IHD shows daily cost including standing charge and VAT, maybe yours is the opposite. If you take the IHD amount, +standing charge, then multiply by 1.05 is the total the same?

E.g £0.16+£0.27=£0.43 *1.05= £0.4435
(cost) (S/C) (VAT 5%)

£0.27 is round about the standing charge for gas

Standing charge is 26.12 so you could be on to something. Although there never used to be difference in them so I wonder if they've change it recently.
