£99 taken out of bank for £20 petrol Asda

I put £20 in my car on Friday at Asda pay at pump. I know it says something about authorizing £99, however ever since then the £99 has been taken out my bank (it's in pending transactions but the money has still been taken and I'm unable to use it) as well as the separate £20 transaction. This has never happened before and I'm getting concerned now. I don't use this very often so not sure how exactly it works but I really need that £99 now to pay bills and I can't have it just sat pending. Anyone know more about this or what I can do? Is it worth contacting bank?

I fill up at Asda weekly though. Never had this issue before. They are only supposed to hold it for the duration of the fuel dispensing then it releases and you are charged for what you've taken. My store shopping transaction has now cleared yet this amount is still hanging there in pending 🤨

DH uses lots of fuel for work and mainly uses Asda and Morrisons. The authorisation amount is always taken from our account and, although it is usually back the next day, sometimes it takes a couple of days.

This happened to me at Morrisons. I tried to use pay at the pump and it declined my card. Weird as I had just been paid. Tried a second time and it did it again, so used a different card. Guess what? Declined that too! So I drive back around to avoid using pay at the pump and used a normal machine. Went in and paid with one of the cards that were declined, no issue. As I left, I had a feeling to check my online banking. They had taken 3 payments of £99 (even though they were declined!) plus a payment for fuel that was not the amount I ended up putting in! I was then worried that I had been charged for the person behind me at the pay at the pump, if it had not properly declined. Thankfully I had my receipt to prove my fuel was different! Anyway, they were unhelpful in the kiosk and I basically refused to leave until someone came to give me a better solution than 'it'll be back in your account tomorrow.' All in all it was nearly 2 weeks before the whole amount came back. And after a couple of days my ACTUAL fuel bill appeared on top! I was furious and won't ever use pay at pump for that reason again.
