credit?

I went a long long way over my agreed overdraft limit last summer (about £2000 over my £1250 limit). I paid it back in september last year and paid back the rest of my overdraft as well. I have been in credit ever since.

My problem is that I had my switch card taken off me and I now only have a cashline card which can be used at cashmachines but not in shops, it's not a cheque guarantee card either.

I have asked my bank for a switch card but they wont give me one, anyone know if I would get one if I changed to another bank? The guy in the bank this morning either didn't know or just didn't want to tell me. it's getting really annoying having to caryy cash around everywhere, and i don't feel very safe.

Most banks will give you a debit card - solo or visa electron which is same as switch but not cheque garantee card, but better than cash.

won't it be down to your credit rating?? I think maybe you'll just have to check around and see

they probably want a decent period of time between payback and issuing a new card where you could get yourself back in debt

its taken 2years before i was able to get a debit card with my bank. i never had one with them before, but had problems with the account which took a long time to get sorted. I was only allowed to have one this sept.

You could apply to another bank, and yo may get a card with them.

Will ask about a solo card, if it's like a switch card then you can't actually spend more than you have can you? So they shouldn't be worried about me getting back in debt.

With a switch card you can spend more than you have. Most POS machines will only call bank to verify funds are available for purchases over a certain amount.

But with a Solo or Electron card you cannot go overdrawn, so banks should give you one even if they will not consider you for a Switch.

I had my debit card taken off me when i gave up work and used my overdraft! It has taken me over 4 years to get it back. They agreed on tuesday that i can have a debit card again. I do find it strange as last time i asked i was working full time and had over £1000 going in every month and hadnt been over drawn for atleast a year and they refused. Now ive got only £800 a month going in and am about £50 overdrawn each month!!! STRANGE

BTW i tried to get a debit card with another bank and was told that banks share info and the new bank refused as well. Maybe my bank loves me again cos ive just had my name put on mortgage!
