I have opted out of my workplace pension for 14 years as I can’t afford to pay into it . Every time the auto re-enrolment thing has came out in the past I have always managed to opt out again before deductions are made however I got my payslip today and have had a full pension deduction made for the month and payroll say they can’t refund this back to me until next month . I am already fucking broke as it is and can’t afford to lose any more money especially to a pension which I didn’t sign up for and have repeatedly told payroll I don’t want to be in . I am currently signed off sick with stress which is partly down to financial issues and this will just tip me over the edge . Is there anything else I can do I am in despair

The rules have changed since you last opted out. You have to be auto-enrolled (as the name suggests) at certain intervals or the company is liable to huge fines. You should have been notified though.

I was advised if I was affected I would be advised beforehand . It’s a fucking joke I don’t care about bloody pensions when I don’t have money right now !
