Are there any other traders on Mumsnet? Particularly ones who are happy to actually talk realistically about money and their achievements? I’ve tried other traders forums but am finding them a bit exasperating. I am a retail trader - I trade forex and commodities. I have account capital of £63.5K which i’ve built from £25K over the last 18m. What do you think a good ROR is? Most Forex forums spout a load of nonsence i.e 20% per month (8.5 years of which would make you a billionaire if you started with £1K). I make about 4.5% per month which I am amazed by as I have no special qualifications and it’s just a side-hustle.

Hey @Threadkill I trade FX in my spare time (also work full time in fintech). I trade with a prop firm using their capital though (I find it less stressful than trading my own money). Happy to chat.

I'm a Forex trader too. I also do it as a side hustle and have a funded account. I've only been doing it for a few months but so far so good!

@IceCreamTime19 I’ve heard about prop firms but never really understood the process. I believe you have to pass some sort od test/challenge to get into it?

@OnTheVergeOfABreakdown congrats on making some sort od profit! Sounds like you are in that elsusive club of profitable traders!

I trade more commodities rather than forex these days cos I think they have slightly more predictable floors and ceilings. These are interesting times in which to trade, really difficult to predict whether oil/copper price will keep goimg up due to squeeze on oil or go down due to recession/economic troubles.

I really want to start forex trading but don’t know where to start. Any advice ?

I joined a group with a monthly subscription run by a couple on Instagram. They're not involved in MLM forex businesses or anything like that; all knowledge is their own and they basically teach you how to learn. I can PM you their Instagram page if you want?

I have been learning technical trading for a while but nothing profitable as above and something to suit my style. I work 8-6 and to get in front of the charts during this period is difficult.

I just have a Lloyds Share Trader account. I've made about 46% in the last 4 years - mostly due to buying when the markets were low due to Covid. I just wish I had been braver and invested more!
