School trips

Is there any help with school trips if your child receives fsm? I always pay for them myself but as the end of the year approaches there are so many big ones coming up that I don’t want my children missing out on but I can’t afford all of them, I asked the school in the past about help with uniform but they looked at me like I was crazy and just said no we don’t help with that, so I felt silly asking which is why I thought I would check this time before asking if anyone knows? I don’t receive any maintenance so that can’t go towards it.

posted elsewhere but no response.

Is there a school trip policy either on the website or that you can ask for - that may have details of how they ensure everyone is included.

If not would you feel able to approach the class teacher to ask?

If you qualify for FSM then your school should be receiving Pupil Premium for your child. This is lumped with all the other PPs and is meant to be used to close the gap in terms of attainment, so mainly spent on things like maths & English intervention. However it can also be used for other things to stop children missing out, at the school's discretion. On the school website they should have info on how they use PP funds.

If the trip is educational and in school time, school cannot require payment. They can ask for voluntary contributions, but if they don't get sufficient money they can't just take paying pupils but not others. It is an 'all or nothing'. Note this isn't as far as I am aware the same for a fun trip or a residential.

Ah I will have a look thank you, they don’t make it sound voluntary at all the letter says x amount to pay and needs to be paid online before the child can go
