My bank no longer has a branch in our town. Can I take my notes into a different bank and exchange them for new notes rather than deposit them?

I very much doubt it. I work in banking and our policy is that any money being swapped has to be paid into your named account, and then withdrawn again, so it's traceable. It might be worth you asking at your local post office, but as I say it's unlikely sorry.

You can post to the Bank of England - they have a form available online and you need to send copies of ID etc

You can still use old £50 notes till 22 Sept so can you use them for spending?

I had a load of old notes (£20's) which I just changed at our local PO last year.
They were our emergency fund and stored in a "safe place" but I had forgotten about them.
