Can you get critical illness insurance if you've had a critical illness before?

Just that really, had cancer 5 years ago, and one of the worse aspects was worrying about money whilst I was off work. Can i get critical illness insurance (even if it excludes cover for previous illness) to give me peace of mind, in case for example I had a heart attack or a completely different type of cancer? I tried a couple of years ago (half heartedly) but didn't have any job with the one insurer I contacted

You can do, but it will either be very expensive or will exclude the illnesses you've had before, probably be both.

It will be very expensive. And from what I was told if they are able to prove a link between your new condition and the pre-existing one then they may not pay out (as pre-existing will not be covered anyway).

Still, worth asking around and getting some cover if you can afford it.

Try speaking to someone at Lifesearch. They are really excellent life/critical insurance brokers and will be able to help and advise you.
